In Defense of Women

In defense of women, postcard (activism)

I'm hoping for a little help with postage.

I'm looking at this from 68 years old, having been blessed with all the stages of life starting as a son, brother, husband, father, step-father, uncle, grandfather, friend, with women being intimately interwoven into every phase of my life (and at every level) - I've lived life's personal dramas, loses and successes.  This is my distillation of this facet of my experience - A woman deserves the right to be the jury and judge of her own fate, which by nature includes her fetus.

Respecting a woman's right to her own self-defense and sovereignty over her body seems to me the least repugnant of all options.

I made an initial run of a 250 postcards and addressed them to women's rights organizations and key Washington Democrats.  I also starting a thread over at the CFI Forum in case anyone out there wants to join the discussion.  Now I printed another thousand and around 250 addressed and stamped, and it'll be a few weeks before being able to purchase another couple hundred dollars worth of postcard stamp at .53@.  That's why I've decided to see if anyone might be interested in helping with stamps.  Should it go well, I'd love to buy more postcards.  Can you help?

Profiles In Courage - Dr. Warren Hern

There are a few brave insightful souls, who have stepped up already to share valuable insights and to help raise awareness.  Dr. Hern has been a physician for 45 years caring for women during the most difficult periods of their lives.  He too is concerned by the increasingly malicious Republican manipulation of the abortion issue for political gain.

Abortion is a personal crisis of utmost importance to a woman’s life and it involves her circle of loved ones and her community.  It is a personal tragedy, not a state tragedy, the state has no morally justifiable reason for meddling in this issue of a woman’s sovereignty over her own body.  Not in a country that boasts about being “free”.

Religious zealots demand it, cynical politicians and dogma driven PR masters use it as a bludgeon.  All of them belong to the school of thought that if you don’t like a fact, or the truth of a situation create your own fictional fact and story, then refuse to acknowledge, let along consider, the validity of anyone else’s information, or evidence, or experiences.  Rather than exchange constructive information, they’ll label such messengers enemies.

That’s not right and it’s going to get a lot uglier, real soon - seems to me heroes like Dr. Warren Hern at the Boulder Abortion Clinic need to have a huge community of concerned citizens and activists vocally speaking up to support the important work they do.  This isn't something for him to do, he's busy being a doctor.

I'm talking about a citizens movement simply because you have a genuine treasure in that man and the services he provides.  Not only that, Boulder citizens who value this man might consider helping create a security barrier around his clinic, grassroots neighborhood watch.

That’s not paranoia, that’s paying attention to what the Alt-Right is saying -

Republicans Denying a Woman's Right to Self Defense

[edited Saturday evening]
Here is another diversion into the upcoming American election, this time highlighting one of the most shameful aspects of Republican power politics, their relentless attack on a women's right to self-determination and self-defense.  They justify their stance on the conviction that they've tapped into the mind of Thee God Almighty, creator of time and life, and that 'God' has commanded them... out of "love" and "caring" - to force themselves into a woman's private business.

Despite their personal conviction, the laws of a nation that professes "liberty for all" has no business invading a woman's bedroom.  The crisis pregnancy is the concern of the woman, perhaps her family, health, and spiritual community, but certainly not the State.

After all we are talking about a woman's right to self-determination and self-defense.  Which in this 2014 election is under attack in ColoradoNorth Dakota, and Tennessee.
