Lord of the Flies (#8 Poptech's Truth)

(did some morning touch up edits 2/2/16)
I thought I could avoid Anthony Watts and Poptech's attack piece on me, figuring I'd get to it later.  But my old pal AL (a debate mate from this past November 23 to December 13th in the "debating sock-puppet" series.) just couldn't resist rubbing it in my face, and since his link went to Poptech's post, I figured, OK in for a nickel, in for a dollar.
AL writes Sunday, January 31, 2016 - 1:19 citizenschallengeYT Hahahahaha…:P  http://www.populartechnology.net/2016/01/the-truth-about-whatsupwiththatwatts-et.html?m=1
Oh boy, talk about desperation to dig up shit, well they dug and they dug and oh the facts and links they've unearthed. But, even more impressive than what they unearthed - is the bizarre theatrical spin they put on everything.

All dedicated to maligning me and ignoring the evidence and the ideas I challenge them with.  What they deliberately ignore is that I'm just a messenger talking about the science and I am always ready to support my claims with references back to the authoritative science I learned from.  If you don't believe me, try me.

On the other hand these clowns spend all their effort putting their fantastical labels on people and spinning hallucinatory yarns while claiming superiority and victory... as though it's their's to claim.  They make lots of noise about the science, yet they never produce any serious science when they are challenged.  Instead it always reverts to a malicious mud fight.  It's worth making a big deal about because powerful leaders like Inhofe and Barton and the rest hide behind this sort of insanity to justify doing nothing and wasting precious time.

I've copied Poptech's "Truth about WUWTW" and pasted it below and diluted the 'horror' with some more facts and commentary.  I eliminated some links, but I kept most, to be honest it was cool revisiting some of those pages.

At least I don't take myself so seriously, nor do I have illusions about being smarter than actual scientists.  Yo, poppy do you have any sense of humor, or self-skepticism?}
Peter Miesler ("Pete the Carpenter") is a brain-dead stoner {Smacks of desperation and hatred}/ framing carpenter with a high school diploma who likes to spam emotional and unsubstantiated nonsense {Note: no examples offered.} around the Internet under the username 'citizenschallenge'.

Here's an example of what these folks call unsubstantiated nonsense:

Peter was born in Münster, Germany on July 1, 1955,  {They missed 12+ years in big city Chicago} moved to Burlingame, California in 1968, graduated from Burlingame high school in 1973, had a "spiritual re-birth" {So, what have we here? The faith-based crowd has something against a spiritual awakening?  What's wrong with having a deep awareness of our planet's physical reality?  Sure beats the utter emptiness of a 6 day creation 6,000 years ago, a la ancient tribal texts.} at Yosemite National Park in (1973) and moved to {Silverton first 6 years} Colorado in 1979 where he spent two decades honing his "scientific" knowledge working at restaurants {You forgot the cook's (er, chef's) apprenticeship in 1978 at the Michelin Star rated restaurant, Hotel Hirsch in Bad Wurzach, Allgaü, Germany - enabled by my dear parents making sure we grew up bilingual - although to this crowd, I imagine that's another demerit for me - xenophobia and all that.}
before moving to the scientific big leagues as a day laborer{Sure, that's how it started, but some of us learn and I've long been a skilled carpenter, I read blueprints, I'm experienced in all phases from foundation to roofing, to installing windows and doors, to figuring and building stairs and doing trim, plus mucho plumbing, and a bit of electrical.  -  But hey with the 2008 bust and the kids grown up and all, my three decades of double shifts and more was done with.  A somewhat materially minimalist life-style means I don't have tons of bills, thus don't have to work non-stop.

Though when the calls come, I gotta be there.  And there's the rub, could you do it Poptech?  For the past five years I haven't had to advertise, I'm known within my community and I have a good reputation for integrity, a can-do attitude, abilities and experience and I meet my clients/friends expectations.  The jobs come to me.

Oh and Poptech isn't that a beautiful horse shed.  Think you could pull that off?  Alone?  Maybe it's time to put up some pictures of the little horse stable I built, that's even nicer.} yet {Yet, what!?} wound up filing for divorce in 2012.  {Talk about desperately digging for dirt - this says more about their amorality than anything else.}

When Peter is not contributing to deforestation, he spews a horrendously formatted {There you go, hit 'em where it hurts, I'm mortified.
But, he forgets I never claimed to be a media pro, like they have in his camp.
And it is challenging trying to keep various narrators clearly defined, since I actually attempt engaging in what others have written, as opposed to just talking past them, as contrarians do so well.

I'm just a regular citizen, who had enough of the Republican Attack on Science and decided I'd become a part of the dialogue.  This is my learning and outreach project.} troll {Actually trawling would be a much more fitting description of what I'm doing.} blog named "What'sUpWithThatWatts, et al." that was originally created to stalk {Stalk!  That's precious!  Though, I do recall a few years back Kevin Trenberth was going to give a climate lecture in Boulder, CO, specifically for Anthony Watts as he was bragging on WUWT, but being a public institution it was open to the public.  When I blogged my intention to be there to meet the man and directly ask him some questions, to say nothing of getting to listen to Dr. Trenberth in person - somehow Anthony's scheduling got all complicated and he bowed out and the event was cancelled, guess I didn't rate. - now if that's stalking, Poppy has a mighty low bar for folks he don't like.  Of course, it's possible Anthony's cancellation had nothing to do me, but then again, it may well have. ;- ) }  and harass skeptical meteorologist Anthony Watts but is now used to smear anyone who disagrees with his alarmist ideology{Damned straight!  I harass web-charlatans and attack their lies about scientific work and I rail against their malicious slandering of serious professionals.} Peter's scientific "credentials" include {first !} learning about global warming in a 1970's high school science class {classes!} (and being a registered Democrat {Yeah, I was independent, but then registered Democratic so I could participate in Colorado's caucus process - even been to the State Assembly and Convention as delegate a couple times. -  makes me a mighty bad person in Poppy's estimation.  Oh and I did work on the McGovern campaign back in Burlingame, oh my.

Re. my education: You left out the part about four decades of ongoing interest and independent study in all aspects of Earth sciences and evolution.

In fact, my active pursuit of bloggers who attack and misrepresent legitimate climate science has been all about learning.  Try it.  I take on questions and challenges, then research them and then learn to understand the details, about stuff I would have never pursued had I not been trying to investigate contrarian claims.  I know folks like Jim Steele have developed a passionate hatred for me, because I've called Jim on his shit so often.  But so it goes.  Frauds and liars need to stop getting their free ride.}

Unfortunately, Peter's limited education {hey, I never claimed to have a degree.} and intellect prevents him from being able to defend the lies, misinformation and strawman arguments he spams on his blog. His debating skills amount to copying and pasting results from amateur Google searches without reading them, fabricating conspiratorial delusions that support his emotional positions and then censoring fact-based comments that refute all of the nonsense he spams. {I've directly challenged Poptech (we'll see if he posts the comment) to publish these supposed censored comments.  I don't recall a single "fact based" comment coming from Poptech.  I posted every comment he offered and didn't change a word - why should I need to?  His words speak volumes just as they are.  He doesn't offer counter-arguments, he attacks the messenger.}

Peter is incapable of debating anyone where they can actually reply without being censored or having their comments hacked up and edited. When he does respond it often includes incoherent gibberish, which is a telltale sign of marijuana induced brain damage making any such interaction futile.

{Please produce examples of me editing your words, bet you can't.

The rest of this simply underscores their unhinged hatred, it's not about dialogue or learning, it's about superiority and demolishing the other.  So Weird, so self-destructive.

Andrew, you know what I think is a crime, the way the Republican/libertarian PR Machine has declared malicious lies, along with misrepresenting and slandering others as their free speech prerogative.  It's so hideous and un-American, but there it is.  While folks who know better stand by silently.}

While others alarmists try and smear skeptics as "Holocaust deniers", ironically Peter's late father Dieter Werner Miesler actually fought for the Nazis .  {Hmmm, as though a seventeen year old draftee had much choice. But you'd have to have some humanity in you to appreciate and respect such a reality.  What would you have done poppy?  To me, all this seems like another example of unhinged adolescent hatred.

Not for a moment do they dare imagine I'm a decent guy, who's learned a little about what he's talking about.  And if nothing else, the supplemental information I offer should be capable of educating serious adults about what's happening within our climate system.  It's not about me, nor how good or bad I am.  It's about understanding what's happening upon this planet from whence we came and where we're returning.}

Yo, Andrew, thanks for plugging my blogs

I find the term Lord of the Flies coming into my imagination more and more often.  It seems a fitting allegory for this sort of tripe,

http://www.cliffsnotes.com/literature/l/lord-of-the-flies/lord-of-the-flies-at-a-glance
 In Lord of the FliesWilliam Golding gives us a glimpse of the savagery that underlies even the most civilized human beings.
  • The major theme of Lord of the Flies is that humans are essentially barbaric if not downright evil. The stranded boys begin by establishing a society similar to the one they left behind in England, but soon their society has degenerated into rival clans ruled by fear and violence; before the book is over, three boys have been killed.
  • The novel is an allegory, which is a story in which characters, settings, and events stand for things larger than themselves. For example, the island represents the world; Ralph and Jack symbolize different approaches to leadership.

OK, I think that's it for the touch up edits.

Oh and for the record,
Poptech never did show me the courtesy of letting me know he was featuring me at his blog.

Nothing like keeping it within their echo-chamber.
How else to retain their sense of superiority.

My experience has been that poptech is far more honest than citizenchallegne/meisler . Meisler is just experiencing the time honored truth, What goes around comes around!

Oh that's rich.
Mind you folks, this is thee Jim Steele.

He's made quite a reputation for himself by going around talking to scientists who study wildlife in order to learn about and find some flaws in their work. Most the time (if not all) these issues have been explained to him by those very same scientists - who have clearly recognized, acknowledged and are working on resolving outstanding issues. But, in his talks he leaves out those details - since his audience loves to hear scientists being ridiculed and Steele is happy to oblige.

Then he uses those small errors in wildlife studies (mind you studying wildlife, in the wild, is extremely difficult) to conclude that climate scientists don't know what they are talking about. Sort of like 1+1=5.

His other addition to the intellectual cesspool is his assertion that local conditions and natural cycles dominate our planet's climate system. Yeah, head vice stuff.

It's as though he refuses to grasp even the most basic climate science, namely that our atmosphere acts as an insulation blanket (YES, that is damned well settled science!!!). He's making his money these days on the Republican/libertarian talk circuit assuring the troops that raising our planet's "insulation regulator" from 280 ppm to 400 ppm has absolutely nothing to do the warming and increasing disruptions being witnessed world wide.

I'll let myself be judged by more intelligent and ethical personages.

Okay lest I be too catty, Jim was also once a bird watcher of some local renown and the camp caretaker/director.

For those interested in this Jim Steele character and his story,
and why he's got such a hate-on for me,
I've posted an overview and index to detailed reviews of his claims and tactics over here:
