They say life is what happens while you're busy making plans. This past Thursday I was waylaid by the fact that Americans for Prosperity has invaded our little eastern slope Colorado town with the intention of removing a much liked County Commissioner because she shows concern for the local environment and believes the Oil Industry should take responsible for their own messes, though she's never voted against a well permit. She is simply too green for Koch's agenda. Next they want to kill a long overdue and much worked on county land-use code.

Free Speech is no license for malicious fraud and slander!
I've been wanting to Repost this article since I first read it last week. It's something that is long overdue. The time has arrived to reaffirm our need to deal honestly with today's many challenges. Free Speech is not a license to commit fraud through the agents of malicious slander nor by out-screaming and misrepresenting the science serious experts are trying to explain to our leaders and citizens.
A publicity campaign ruthlessly bent on dumbing down our collective understanding of critically important issues deserves to be called criminal and prosecuted. Why? Because our leaders and citizens have the right, the need, to learn what serious competent scientists have been observing and learning about our planet and this climate system that we are absolutely depend on.

Investigative journalism has uncovered a “web of denial” in which polluting industries pay “independent” groups to disseminate misinformation to the public and policymakers. The same groups and tactics were employed first by the tobacco industry, then fossil fuel companies. Big Tobacco has been to court and lost; now it’s Big Oil’s turn. Political leaders are choosing sides in this war.
Research by Inside Climate News revealed that Exxon did top notch climate science research in the late 1970s and early 1980s, which revealed the dangers its products posed via climate change. Soon thereafter, Exxon launched misinformation campaigns by funding “think tanks” and front groups to manufacture doubt about climate science and the expert consensus on human-caused global warming.
Exxon wasn’t alone. Koch Industries, Peabody Energy, and other fossil companies have similarly funneled vast sums of money to these groups. ...

Koch bros, private surveillance, plan of attack
Read a jaw dropping story by Kenneth Vogel today that's mortifying but sadly believable. Another indication of how much our democracy has been crippled by little minds with mega war-bucks. A foreshadowing of what rationalist types are facing in the coming election. So much for fair play and a sense of cooperation as we prepare for coming challenges.

Follow the money... why do people go along with it ?
A new study adds some more substance to what many know: a very few, very rich men have been playing puppet masters and driving the "climate-change counter movement's" publicity campaign which is solely dedicated to stonewalling all substantive efforts to understand and mitigate what we are doing to our atmosphere.
The real tragedy is that these groups use blatantly phony tactics, repeatedly misrepresent science. They spend most their effort manufacturing scandals, witch-hunts, and character assassination - in ways that an informed public ought to be able to see through. But, Americans seem to have become so Hollywood-ized that they don't care to differentiate between a con job and honest professionalism anymore: "Just tell us what we want to hear."
Why? Is it because we have come to expect that every material desire is our birth-right and damn anything or anyone who dares suggest otherwise?
But, the reality is that this isn't the 1970s anymore.
It's not about climatologists making conjectures anymore!
Our planet's Arctic Ice cap is disappearing at an astounding rate;
and the rest of the cryosphere isn't doing much better;
the planet as a whole continues warming;
the Jet Stream continues getting weirder;
driving ever more extreme weather patterns and infrastructure damaging events.
CO2 IS an key greenhouse gas and does act as atmospheric insulation;
Society IS, in essence, adding extra thermo blankets onto our planet and the warming will continue.
This isn't open to rational debate anymore, the evidence has become too overwhelming.
But, it sure is open to endless irrational stonewalling
