Climate Change Reconsidered - NIPCC Translation - Authors: Idso, Singer, Carter examined

Climate Change Reconsidered - Translation by the Chinese Academy of Sciences
 Craig Idso, S. Fred Singer, Robert M. Carter – June 11, 2013

From the Heartland Institute's news release:
The first 856-page volume of Climate Change Reconsidered, published in 2009, and its follow-up, the 430-page Climate Change Reconsidered: 2011 Interim Report, were produced by a team of scientists originally convened by Dr. S. Fred Singer under the name of the Nongovernmental International Panel on Climate Change (NIPCC). The volumes were coauthored and edited by three climate science researchers:

  • Craig D. Idso, Ph.D.
  • , chairman of the Center for the Study of Carbon Dioxide and Global Change, editor of the online magazine CO2 Science, and author of several books and scholarly articles on the effects of carbon dioxide on plant and animal life;
  • Robert M. Carter, Ph.D.
  • , a marine geologist and research professor at James Cook University in Queensland, Australia and author of Climate: the Counter Consensus; and
  • S. Fred Singer, Ph.D.
  • , founder and president of the Science and Environmental Policy Project (SEPP) and a distinguished atmospheric physicist and first director of the U.S. Weather Satellite Service.

It's amazing what a few ideologically committed folks with lots of financial support can do.

Basically, we have a claim that three outlier scientists with a handful of helpers have proven thousands of professional scientists over decades, nay over a century, of research and observation can't do basic science.  Think about it.

Keep in mind the NIPCC report was done within an Heartland Institution which is openly committed to pushing a "Libertarian" political agenda - ones that clearly places economic interests above and beyond real geophysical realities.  Look at Heartland's "Mission Statement" there is nothing in their about striving to learn about our planet's climate.

I'm talking about our 'global life support system' and it's treated with thoughtless contempt by Republicans of every stripe... it simply does not make sense to me!

Contrarians constantly insinuating that scientists are doing it for the money... when it's the scientist's life long goal to find a profession that allows them to continue their passion for looking and learning and struggling to understand.

Heartland with its libertarian goals: you know, to grasp the most economic benefit with the least investment - isn't anything that lends itself to curiosity about the science or learning.  Their website makes it clear.

The science of understanding has no part in their world outlook, yet Republican representatives and citizens throughout this country have made their choice clear: They want fairy tales over facts.

And thus this circus continues, with a small club of people with very vested interests producing a report such as the NIPCC's comedy of errors science while the march of extreme weather event's continues gnawing away at our global economic infrastructure.

Folks can keep playing naive and pretending to be innocent while all of our children's futures are being washed down the drain.

I wish I could say it nicer.

OK, with that out of the way, lets get down to business.

For those of you who take all of this serious, here's some information you should be aware of.

A collection of information sources regarding Idso, Carter, and Singer.  These men have their axes to grind and their science has to do with pushing an agenda and NOT with any interest in learning about and understanding humanity's tremendous impact upon our planetary life support system.  The evidence speaks for itself.  Take a look.

Robert M. Carter

There's a fellow by the name of Brian Harrison who's written a very detailed serious review of Bob Carter's book "Climate: The Counter Consensus"

Once again, since Carter is a principle NIPCC author, it's worth consider this detailed review of Carter's brand of science and how it crumbles under a serious lens.
From:  http://brians-satchel.com:

A REVIEW OF PROFESSOR ROBERT M CARTER’S BOOK:
BOOK: Climate: The Counter Consensus. Stacey International, London 2011 reprint.AUTHOR: According to the book, Professor Robert M. Carter is a Palaeontologist, Stratigrapher, Marine Geologist and Environmental scientist and is Research fellow at James Cook University, Queensland. He has had a distinguished career.REVIEWER: Brian Harrisson is a member of CPA Australia and is now retired. He originally graduated in Industrial Accounting later in Economics and Politics and later still in, Advanced Taxation. He was formerly a Corporate Financial Executive, Public Accounting Practitioner, Mining Company Director and Business Strategist. He became interested in the science of climate change through his work on Carbon tax policy. He recently started the web site “brians‐satchel.com” The site was developed to discuss issues of community importance and provide reliable information.COMMENT: This review is really two documents in one. The project was originally begun as a book review but morphed into a larger essay when I found that there were simply too many important and contentious points in the book that needed to be brought to light. The first document is section 1 which is intended to be read as a stand alone review of the book. The second is a detailed essay about the book made up of all sections where Section 1 can be treated as an introduction to the detailed part of the essay.Section 1 is ≈ 3,000 words long. The essay is ≈ 20,000 words overall. DATE: 20th February, 2012

Denialist affiliationsCarter is Chief Science Advisor to the International Climate Science Coalition[2], funded in part by the Heartland Institute[6], which is funded by the industries involved in producing greenhouse gases. Carter is also an advisor on a number of other right wing and denialist "think-tanks" and groups the Institute for Public Affairs (Aus), The Galileo Movement (Aus), the Science and Public Policy Institute (US), the International Climate Science Coalition (US/Canada), the Australian Climate Science Coalition, the Global Warming Policy Foundation (UK) and Repeal the Act (UK).[7] He was a founding advisor to the New Zealand Climate Science Coalition. Carter is a founding member of the Australian Environment Foundation, a front group set up by the Institute of Public Affairs.
Carter's own website (see image below) claimed, as recently as 2012, that he received no funding from "special interest organisations", but this was shown to be untrue with the release of private Heartland Institute documents in February 2012, which showed Carter was funded by this one front group alone to the tune of approximately $20,000 annually. Carter brushed off the revelation with the statement that being truthful about one's funding is "a very quaint and old fashioned practice".[7]

S. Fred Singer
From:  http://ossfoundation.us/projects/environment/global-warming/myths/s.-fred-singer

S. Fred Singer's early career includes a string of respected positions in the progress and advancement of science. Somewhere along the line, it seems something changed. His efforts apparently turned to advocacy of the agenda of the tobacco, and the fossil fuel industry. The latter part of his career seems to fall in the vein of what might be called a sort of serial denialism with respect to his positions on second hand smoke and human caused global warming.
