The Forbes conversation continues - 13 points examined

As the world warms the "manmade global warming" debate gets ever more surreal.

Seems that no matter how much evidence accumulates, the Republican power-politic devotees come up with ever more disconnected claims and rationalizations.

Couple days ago I was confronted with the following 13 points, (15 including the intro and closing), by someone named "scottar" over at the Forbes' comments pages.  After his jabbing introduction he begins his list with "You-all have failed to account for:"

It turned out, his items are very well accounted for and the list of 13 was little more than a list highlighting scottar's profound misunderstanding of climatology.

Rather than swapping claims and opinions I thought I would simply share a variety of educational videos that directly speak to his various claims.  And then I invited some calm fact-based defense of his various claims and commentary on the lessons offered in the videos I shared.

From the Forbes comments section to "Global Warming Alarmist Caught Doctoring 97% Consensus Claim"

scottar - 1 day ago - (6/14/2013)
"These Skeptical Science supporters are the same ones who esteemed Al Gore as the head guru on climate science, a C average in science but A+ on seminary religious studies. Yes you alarmists took Al Gore religiously and now you follow a joker: Cooks CIV- he’s a cartoonist, what a joke."
~ ~ ~

What an example of misrepresentation.  You give the impression of someone who couldn't care less about John Cook's background, you just want to throw rotten tomatoes.

"John Cook is the Climate Communication Fellow for the Global Change Institute at the University of Queensland. He originally studied physics at the University of Queensland. After graduating, he majored in solar physics in his post-grad honours year."
~ ~ ~
And the way you bring up Al Gore - crowning him as "guru of climate science" indicates that you haven't spent any time looking at what climatology is all about.

Because if you were paying any attention you would understand that Al Gore is a politician who made a video and is doing his best to educate people about climate science - he is not a climatologist and he's not perfect.

Understand the difference: he's talking about the science, he's not the one doing the science.

If you want to learn about the science in a good faith manner, may I suggest starting here:

Scottar, do you actually believe the 13 claims you make?
Could you calmly defend them with any real evidence?
Are you interested in learning about those 13 points?
or are you merely dumping a "list of tenets" {as in points of immovable faith} on us?

Let me try another tact in answering your questions/claims.
Instead of me swapping opinion with opinion, I'll reply with educational videos.  Some are short, others are full hour long lectures.

Although to start out there's a hour and a half NASA extravaganza that combines the latest data with state of the art computer graphics to produce a look at Earth's global heat distribution engine like you've never seen before.

Scottar, I hope you find my video replies to your mistaken claims interesting, perhaps a jumping off point for some serious discussion about the real issue - which is: learning about what's happening to our planet.

(1) Warming not ‘global’. It is shown in satellite data to be northern hemisphere only

(3) Temperatures longer term have been modified to enhance warming trend and minimize cyclical appearance. Station dropout, missing data, change of local siting, urbanization, instrumentation contaminate the record, producing exaggerating warming. The GAO scolded NOAA for poor compliance with siting standards.

(7) Alarmists predicted an increase in hurricane frequency and strength globally but the global activity had diminished after 2005 to a 30+ year low. The U.S. has gone seven consecutive years without a landfalling major hurricane, the longest stretch since the 1860s

(8) Alarmists have predicted a significant increase in heat records but despite heat last 2 summers, the 1930s to 1950s still greatly dominated the heat records. And when stations with over 80 years of temperature data were considered, the number of heat records last July were not extraordinary relative to past hot summers.

(11) Alarmists had indicated Greenland and arctic ice melt would accelerate. The arctic ice tracks with the Atlantic Multidecadal Oscillation and the IARC shows the ice cover was similarly reduced in the 1950s when the Atlantic was last in a similar warm mode. In Greenland, the warmth of the 1930s and 1940s still dominates the records and longer term temperatures have declined.

"scottar": "In short you alarmists appear to be waiting for the nexus climate guru to appear to consolidate the pseudo science that started under James Hansen and nurtured by Al Gore. I laugh at your constant ad-hominidism attacks against those who see through the facade of alarmist science like Mr. Andrew. And I don’t blame him for using a pseudonym with all the recent attacks against those who oppose the consensus of progressives, it’s like a repeat of the inquisition of the feudal era for basically the same reasons."

What " recent attacks"?   Pointing out that Heartland and Poptech are spreading misdirection and lies?
Heck you referring to "progressives" is another example that you are in this for the political battle and not interested in what the Earth Observations have to tell us.

You talk about "ad hominidism" then in the same breath charge whoever with "feudal era inquisition" practices.  Come on, have you folks no sense of introspection and self-skepticism?
