#14g Debating GOP Disconnect AGW - Gore’s AIT(27-35) vs SPPI, Monckton's 35 lies

The debate continues #27-35 :

For a more detailed introduction visit #14b Debating GOP Disconnect AGW

Quoting SPPI and Lord Monckton: "Below are the 35 errors pointed out by the SPPI article, with my short summary of the actual truths behind each dishonest fib. See the full explanations at 'ScienceandPublicPolicyorg/monckton/goreerrors.'"

However, I will demonstrate that SPPI and their Lord M are in fact the malicious liars who politicized the science in order to confuse and stupefy innocents like my pal EM, and to further their self-interested myopic and destructive agenda.

This last installment covers points 27 to 35: Mosquitoes, tropical diseases, CO2 pollution, 2003 heatwave 35K, Pied flycatchers, bogus pictures, Thames Barrier, Facts are supported.  I appreciate this has been many hours worth of an exercise in futility, though I always learn a bit more.  Still, our new Republican government is too concerned with putting the finishing touches on becoming America's overlords and they could care less about reason or learning or the future beyond their own immediate gratification.  In their shallow hubristic mindscapes our planet Earth has no more depth or substance than a post card.  So why do I care?  Because people still need to know the truth is easy to find, one simply needs the intellectual integrity and curiosity to look for it.

#14f Debating GOP Disconnect AGW - Gore’s AIT(17-26) vs SPPI, Monckton's 35 lies

Quoting SPPI and Lord Monckton: "Below are the 35 errors pointed out by the SPPI article, with my short summary of the actual truths behind each dishonest fib. See the full explanations at 'ScienceandPublicPolicyorg/monckton/goreerrors.'"

However, I will demonstrate that SPPI and their Lord are in fact the malicious liars who politicized the science in order to confuse and stupefy innocents like my pal EM, and to further their self-interested myopic and destructive agenda.

Here I review points 17 to 26: Arctic Ocean warming, Arctic warming, Greenland glaciers, Himalayan g., Peruvian g., disappearing mountain glaciers, West Antarctic, Antarctic Peninsula, Larson B collapse, Sahara desert.  I had fun with this one and embedded nine authoritative, informative YouTube videos along with the usual plethora of relevant educational links.

I do hope this series helps show some folks out there see how easy it is to confront the nonsense being put out there.  The internet is being flooded with astroturfed malicious liars, we need more grassroots involvement to confront these lies with facts and arguments.

SkepticalScience.com has put together a collection of all contrarian arguments, and there are hundreds, with a review of why said arguments are false or misleading.  Check it out at https://skepticalscience.com/argument.php?f=taxonomy

#14e Debating GOP Disconnect AGW - Gore’s AIT(10-16) vs SPPI, Monckton's 35 lies

       *  EM’s response:   Okay, you’ve got me on this one. I did in fact confuse myself between climate science in the media vs the climate science community. I was mainly referencing outlandish claims from Al Gore in “An Inconvenient Truth”  by relying on the Republican's outlandish PR fraudster the Lord Monckton - now that's what self inflicted delusion is all about, allow me to explain.

In this continuation of my debate with EM I have allowed him to distract me with SPPI's 35 Errors, Lies and Deceptions contrivance that their "Lord" Monckton has so successfully astro-turfed all over the internet.  I will demonstrate that SPPI and Lord Monckton are in fact the malicious liars who ruthlessly politicize the science in order to confuse and stupefy innocents like my pal EM and to further their self-interested myopic and destructive agenda.  Here I review points 10 through 16 - difference 100ppm makes, Hurricane Katrina, Japanese typhoon record, hurricane strength, insurance loses, Mumbai flooding, tornados.

This debate started over my musing regarding the "Republican Disconnect From Planet Earth."
After my introduction
*   I will first quote SPPI’s Lord M’s claim.
*   Then share Gore’s relevant AIT quotes so you can decide for yourselves how honesty (or not) it was described by SPPI's Lord.
*   This is followed with some commentary intended to add perspective to the Lord’s spin and offer ‘the rest of the story’ regarding the issue in question.
*   Rounding up the exercise I’ll include authoritative links and some YouTube videos to offer genuine learning opportunities regarding the questions raised.

#14c Debating GOP Disconnect AGW - PG_Antioch takes EM to task for misrepresenting Gore’s AIT

An internet pal, PG_Antioch, took the time to read EM's opening statement back at "#3 EM has his say. Debating the Republican Disconnect from Earth's realities."  He was so appalled at EM's transparent gullibility and the silliness of EM's statements that he took the time to write a number of specific responses pointing out why EM is so terribly mistaken.  I found his critique to be spot-on and am making it a stand alone guest post and an example of directly confronting the contrarian nonsense.  Ignoring it only reinforces their smug deliberate unhinging from down to Earth realities.

PGA included a number of excellent links to support his various claims (a normal convention among folks trying to inform each other) and I've added a few more.  I also took the liberty of highlighting various passages, but I leave PGA's words as they were.

I saw your links on HotWhopper & felt the need to answer EM. Before I knew it, I'd written an overlong post - sorry!

EM is profoundly, desperately wrong in case after case after case. He is in the service of the psychotic, sociopathic, idiotic, venal, duplicitous, dangerous, evil, murderous, fascist denialists. (Sorry about the name-calling! See below.)

He has an obsession with models (as do many denialists), which are much less important than the major factors: the laws of physics, the facts of the paleoclimate & the current condition of the Earth. He just gives lip service to the fact of ACC {Anthropogenic Climate Change, driven by manmade global warming}

EM: "...a basic understanding of economics and government’s role in society."

PGA: Yes, an understanding of economics is essential to enacting public policy. But one's ideology about government's role in society is PROFOUNDLY IRRELEVANT to climate science. It's just the catchphrase of right wingers who hallucinate that scientists are "leftists" whose motivation is to impose a larger government on society. Nope.

This is an incredibly destructive idea. Ideology has NOTHING to do with climate science. It has ONLY to do with the remedies for it.

EM: "...who doesn’t believe that government market intervention is the way to solve the issue..."

PGA: More utter cluelessness from a dedicated denier. It's very important to realize that the lack of a stiff carbon tax (or other price/fee) is a PROFOUND distortion of the free market. Everyone who opposes a carbon tax (or other fee, etc) is anti-free market.

Believing that it's "free" & "harmless" to emit carbon into the atmosphere without restraint are profoundly psychotic delusions. It will be unfathomably (to deniers) expensive & destructive in the future. Until reality (the costs of "externalities") is included in the price of fossil fuels, we'll never have a free market for energy.

Invitation to debate Piers Corbyn's claims (… another example of hoaxer's fear of honest debate)

My recent blogpost regarding Piers Corbyn offended the gent who's 700 word comment I mirrored, he accuses me of ignoring his facts and it's true my post focused on my discovering why Piers Corbyn is anything but a serious scientist, in fact, arguably from an objective legal standpoint he's a malicious fraud.

For those seriously curious about Mikeyp's talking points, or "facts" as he calls them, check out this wonderful resource geared to the layperson.

Global Warming & Climate Change Myths
https://www.skepticalscience.com/argument.php
Here is a summary of global warming and climate change myths, sorted by recent popularity vs what science says. Click the response for a more detailed response. You can also view them sorted by taxonomy, by popularity, in a print-friendly version, with short URLs or with fixed numbers you can use for permanent references.

Given this morning's exchange with Mikeyp, I sense there's a genuine learning opportunity in all of this.

That is why I'm formalizing my invitation to Mikeyp for a debate regarding my characterization of Piers Corbyn*, by mirroring our YouTube comments exchange where I invite him to send me a Guest Post which I'll publish unaltered in a standalone WUWTW post.
(*Or the state of climate understanding for that matter.)

I'm certainly no expert, but I dare say I know the basics pretty well.  Plus I have a leg up on climate science skeptical types, in that it's not my ego I'm defending.  I'm defending my understanding of the science as it is.  I fully appreciate that my understanding doesn't always agree with the reality.  I embrace being proven wrong as learning opportunities, even if it bruises my ego.

Meaning, my learning continues and is not confined to defending what an echo-chamber feeds me.  Mr. Landscapesandcycles runs and hides from a straight up debate, let's see if Mikeyp has more intellectual fortitude.

As expected you switch off if you see something that you cannot comprehend. Your inability to consider the very real counter arguments to your chosen set of truths does weaken your case. I find your comments to be extremely dismissive without due cause. The Piers Corbyn presentation was obviously dumbed down so it could be understood by a wide audience (yes you), Have you ever considered that the jetstream is affected by a number of different things including magnetic forces,  sunspot activity etc?  {I took the liberty of linking those to some information regarding said claims.}

Come on Willie Soon, how about that debate?

I was reflecting on the final paragraph in my recently completed tenth installment of the great CC/Steele Debate, it came from an article by Lindsey Abrams regarding Heartland Institute's defense of Willie Soon's financial exposure, it reads:
"But the real scandal is that Soon, who is not a climate scientist and who has aligned himself with the decidedly unscientific Heartland Institute, is continuing to stand by the integrity of his work, which deviates sharply from the vast majority of climate science.
If (Dr. Soon) is, as he claimed, “willing to debate the substance of my research and competing views of climate change with anyone, anytime, anywhere,” he might want to start with the climate scientists listed in this exhaustive round-up of all the ways in which the substance of his research has been debated and discredited on its scientific merit alone. …"

I visited that last link and found an overwhelming collection of information detailing the fraudulent nature of "Dr" Willie Soon's game, which seems intimately interwoven with Heartland Institute's malicious focus on misleading and confusing leaders and the public.

With thanks to Connor Gibson and DeSmogBlog I'm happy to mirror this valuable source of information and its many links to yet more detailed and authoritative information regarding Soon's fraud against We The People and our right to learn about climate science and Earth observations in an honest manner.

Willie Soon's Climate Science Denial
Wasn't Ever Credible: Climate Scientists

By Connor Gibson • Saturday, February 28, 2015

“The science that Willie Soon does is almost pointless.” - NASA climate scientist Gavin Schmidt, to the New York Times

Recent revelations regarding Smithsonian scientist Willie Soon's financing and coordination with fossil fuel companies for studies undermining the science of climate change has received quite a bit of attention. Our friends at the Climate Investigations Center have links to source documents, letters to the IRS and Congress, letters to journals that Soon appears to have mislead, and some of the press covering all of this.

The drama has largely outshone the main point among most scientists: Willie Soon's work is vastly discredited. For those who aren't familiar with Willie Soon's fossil fuel company contracting over the last fifteen years, there is probably a legitimate question of whether or not this guy deserves to be in his current pinch.

Frankly, he had it coming.
